Public Safety Director's Message

The Canton Public Safety Department provides far more than just quality police and fire protection to the community--our department has integrated numerous enhancement services to meet and exceed the needs of Canton's residents, schools, community groups, businesses, and visitors. The Canton Fire Department is led by Deputy Director Christopher Stoecklein. He oversees the department's fire suppression and emergency medical service division, along with the department's fire inspection and prevention units.

The Canton Police Department is led by Deputy Director Chad Baugh. He oversees the department's road patrol division, along with an investigative division, school resource officer program, K-9 unit, special enforcement unit, and lock-up facility.

Public Safety's Ordinance Enforcement Unit consists of four uniformed Ordinance Officers dedicated to ensuring property standards ordinances are observed throughout the community.

Public Safety's Emergency Management Division is led by Coordinator William Hayes who is responsible for emergency preparedness in the community. This includes coordinating all facets of Canton's response service to large-scale disasters occurring in the community.

Public Safety maintains a combined police and fire administration, communications, dispatch center and records bureau. This method of operation has proved to be highly-effective while maintaining cost-efficiency.

The Canton Public Safety Department has a long-standing tradition of providing professional excellence in the delivery of public safety services. In addition to the success we've achieved through the application of a department-wide COMPSTAT philosophy, our public safety efforts continue to be enhanced through community interaction. I encourage members of the community to engage in at least one of the many opportunities we provide to interact with our public safety providers.

The Canton Public Safety Department is continuously looking for improvements in our operations, while maintaining fiscal responsibility. We attain to be the best in the delivery of public safety service, and will continue to deploy the most highly-trained, qualified personnel to provide safety and security to the community in which we serve. Best regards, Joshua C. Meier
