UPDATE: Pawn shop owner & associate arraigned on criminal charges
August 1, 2017, Canton, MI – The below listed defendants, Gargis and Razon were arraigned in 36th District Court earlier today. Judge Kenneth J. King set both defendants bond at $5,000/Personal. Gargis and Razon are due back in court for a Probable Cause Conference on August 8, 2017.
August 1, 2017, Canton, MI – This morning, between 10 – 10:30 a.m., the owner of iPawn Shop in Detroit, and one shop associate will be arraigned in 36th District Court, Room 136, on multiple felony charges stemming from a six-month criminal investigation by the Canton Police Department, Michigan State Police and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
Gasswan Usama Gargis, age 38, of Commerce Township, is being arraigned on two misdemeanor charges and the following felony charges: (1) count of Conducting a Criminal Enterprise; (7) counts of Organized Retail Crime, and (6) counts of Receiving & Concealing Stolen Property over $1,000.
Trisha-Lynette Viado Razon, age 20, of Orchard Lake, is being arraigned on two misdemeanor charges and the following felony charges: (5) counts of Organized Retail Crime; and (2) counts of Receiving & Concealing Stolen Property over $1,000.
On June 12, 2017, the Canton Police Department executed a search warrant at the iPawn Shop on 8 Mile Road in Detroit, and at Gargis’ home in Commerce Township, resulting in the recovery of over $300,000 worth of new, in-box merchandise, including high-end electronics, kitchen appliances, generators, and power tools.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym L. Worthy said, “The defendants are allegedly responsible for thwarting over approximately $300,000 from major big box retailers in the metro Detroit area. These charges today are the result of months of tedious and exhaustive work by the Canton Police Department and the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office. This case should serve as notice that these wide-scale sales of stolen goods to pawn shop operations will be vigorously investigated and prosecuted in Wayne County.”
