Kick off the holiday season with Canton’s annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration which will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the Summit on the Park, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI.
Join in the festivities from 6:00-8:30 p.m., as Santa and his reindeer make a special stop in Canton. Starting outside at 6:00 p.m., enjoy holiday carols, watch Santa’s arrival, and countdown with The Village Theater’s Performing Arts Coordinator Joe Kvoriak for the official lighting of the tree, which will be held outside the Summit’s Banquet Center Entrance. Additional outside activities include up-close and personal visits with real live reindeer, as well as Canton Chills Carving demonstrations.
Indoor activities for children include: cookie decorating, face painting, seasonal crafts areas, and pictures with Santa. New this year, event participants are encouraged to visit the Hallway of Giving to obtain craft pieces to create a holiday souvenir, as they learn about several local nonprofit groups and how they can pay it forward with a monetary donation this holiday season. This unique area will feature: Camp A.B.L.E., an award-winning program that provides unique camp opportunities to individuals with disabilities; Plymouth Miracle League, which is dedicated to providing an opportunity to play organized baseball to children with physical and mental disabilities; Canton Goodfellows, whose mission is to ensure that no child goes without a Christmas in the Canton community; and Open Door Ministry Food Pantry, a local organization which provides food assistance to needy families.
Additional indoor activities include Holidays Around the World, where children can learn about special traditions and festivities celebrated in six different countries. The Detroit Circus will also provide strolling entertainment during the event and members of the Canton Concert Band will be on hand to perform holiday tunes.
This year’s event is sponsored, in part, by American 1 Credit Union; Atchinson Ford; Brightside Dental; Busch’s; Community Financial; The Goddard School for Early Childhood Development; IHA Cares; Jack Demmer Ford; Liberty Tax; Motor City MINI; and Renewal by Anderson.
