[ARCHIVED] Suspect charged with theft of packages

UPDATE:   April 16, 2018, Canton, MI – On Saturday, James Michael Newman, age 27 of Van Buren Township, was arraigned on one count of Larceny Over $1,000 less than $20,000, a five-year felony; and one count of Receiving & Concealing Stolen Property ($1,000 - $20,000), a five-year felony.
Newman’s bond was set at $10,000 / 10%.  His Preliminary Exam will be held Friday, April 27, 2018, at 35th District Court.

Original Release - Suspect arrested in connection with package theftsApril 13, 2018, Canton, MI – Yesterday officers from the Canton Police Department arrested a 27-year old man from Belleville, suspected of stealing numerous packages from residential porches in Canton.
Officers investigating the thefts gave credit to private home surveillance footage received from a resident as aiding in the quick apprehension of the suspect.
Charges are pending review by the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.  The suspect is expected to be arraigned within the next 24 hours.
The Canton Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind residents to consider all delivery options available to minimize the length of time packages may be left unattended.
