The Canton Farmers Market will open its regular season on Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Preservation Park, located at 500 N. Ridge Road in Canton, MI. The Market will be held rain or shine every Sunday, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., through October 14, 2018. Market-goers will enjoy a unique shopping experience featuring a variety of local goods for sale, weekly kids crafts and activities, live entertainment, special activities, and more.
“There’s really something for everyone at the Canton Farmers Market,” said Canton Farmers Market Coordinator Sheree Buckman. “Each season we hope that our markets become a family destination where folks can enjoy plenty of great merchandise, fresh food, live music, and special activities.”
New and returning vendors this season include: Pick Michigan, Piggly Petals Flower Farm, The Cheese People of Grand Rapids, Prochaska Farms, Simply Gourmet Fresh, Bobilin Honey, Alley Farms, More…, Bundt & Run, Kapnick Orchards, Agricola, Lula Bre’s Sweet Treats, Spice Grrrl, Cheesecake Etc., Good Times Kettle Corn, Baubles by Barb, Donna Beckerleg, Uniquely Different, Creative Designs by Yo.
Items available for sale on opening day include: produce, honey, eggs, fresh-cut flowers, seasoning blends, pasture-raised meats (pork, chicken), sweet corn, fruits, salsa and chips, artisan cheese and bread, a variety of baked goods, kettle corn, cheesecakes, caramels, soft pretzels, jewelry, handmade bags and more!
At the May 13th Market, Mom will receive special giveaways, while supplies last; Bob Skon will be performing music live on the Bartlett-Travis House porch; and market-goers can pick up brunch from one of the on-site gourmet food trucks including Shimmy Shack and Chicken Coupe Chicken & waffles. Opening day kid’s activities include a Magic Show at 12 p.m. featuring Magician Joshua Wilde, as well as a Mother’s Day Card craft.
Upcoming special events include Annual Perennial Exchanges at the Master Gardner booth, which will be held on May 13, 20, and 27. Visitors can bring a plant, take a plant or take a plant and leave a small donation. Plants that are brought must be in good shape and labeled, if possible. This year’s market will feature special themes for each Market, as well as special Market Family Fun Days that will feature super-sized family-friendly entertainment and extra exciting activities. Upcoming Themes include: May 20 – Street Art/Artist Day; May 27 – Honoring Veterans; June 3 – National Egg Day; June 10 – Kids Summer Party; June 17 – Father’s Day; and June 24 – Celebration of Senses. The first Market Family Fun Day will be held on June 10 during the Canton Farmers Market Kids Summer Party.
