The B.L.O.C.K. Youth and Teen Center’s Lead #LikeAGirl program was the recent recipient of a $10,000 donation generously provided by Masco Corporation, a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of branded home improvement and building products based in Livonia, MI.
Comprised of more than 20 companies, the Masco family operates nearly 60 manufacturing facilities in the United States and over 20 in other parts of the world.
“The grant is part of Masco’s Million Differences campaign, an initiative in which Masco, through its business units, is allocating $1,000,000 of its philanthropic funding in 2018 to support organizations across the country that are working to break down barriers to diversity and inclusion,” said Susan Sabo, MASCO Director of Communications and Corporate Giving. “The B.L.O.C.K.’s Lead #LikeAGirl program was nominated as the recipient of this donation because of the wonderful opportunities it provides these future leaders of tomorrow within our community.”
Masco Corporation is located at 17450 College Parkway in Livonia, MI, and prides itself on community involvement and good citizenship, which are important parts of the Masco corporate creed. The company has demonstrated its commitment to a variety of arts, cultural and housing-based organizations serving the communities in which its companies and employees reside.
“We were extremely excited to hear that our Lead #LikeAGirl program would receive such a substantial donation,” said Recreation Specialist Laura Mortier. “This contribution has the potential to have a major impact on numerous Lead #LikeAGirl participants, and on behalf of all our staff I want to thank MASCO for its generous support.”
Lead #LikeAGirl is an award-winning program that serves a diverse group of young women between the ages of 11-15 and is designed to change the way that these participants, and the community-at-large, think about what it means to Lead #LikeAGirl…and ultimately live #LikeAGirl. Developed in 2015 by The B.L.O.C.K. Youth & Teen Center, this nine-month program enables participants to challenge themselves, discuss relevant issues that young girls face with their peers, and foster relationships with female role models in the community.
