Area residents are encouraged to attend Canton’s First Annual Do Good Expo at the Summit on the Park on the National Day of Service and Remembrance, which marks the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Designated a national day of service by Congress in 2009, this national day of reflection and service was established to engage individuals in community service on 9/11 as an annual and forward-looking tribute to the 9/11 victims, survivors, and those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.
To celebrate and connect organizations and individuals who make a difference in our community, Canton Leisure Services will gather dozens of local non-profit, volunteer, and service-based organizations on September 11, 2018, from 6-8 p.m. in the Summit on the Park’s Banquet Center, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI, 48188.
“Canton’s Do Good Expo is designed to introduce individuals to groups dedicated to worthy causes and issues right here in our community, as well as give all ages an opportunity to take part in special hands-on community service projects specifically on 9/11,” said Laura Mortier, Recreation Specialist. “Our goal is to create a one-stop shop where individuals can learn about organizations needing volunteers and assistance that align with their community service interests.”
All ages are encouraged to attend this free event and take part in one of our hands-on community service projects, such as: fleece blanket weaving, kindness rock decorating, and letter writing to area first responders. Individuals specifically looking for community service hours are also strongly encouraged to attend.
A variety of local non-profits groups will be participating this inaugural Do Good Expo, including: Canton Goodfellows; Canton Firefighters Charity Foundation; First Step; Canton Rotary Club; The NOAH Project; and more.
In an effort to support these participating non-profit organizations, the following items will be collected in a special donation drive:
- Canned or pantry food items (OPEN DOOR MINISTRIES)
- New socks (NOAH PROJECT OF DETROIT)
