The Village Theater at Cherry Hill is pleased to present local artist JS Aitken’s stunning stained glass style oil paintings on display July 31 - August 28, 2019. This color-drenched exhibit, Contemporary Candescence: Beauty of Light & Color, will feature an artist reception on Thursday, August 1, from 7-9 pm, that is free and open to the public.
At first glance you will want to peer closer to understand what you are seeing. Color and technique combine to create the illusion of stained glass on canvas. This unique exhibit, Contemporary Candescence: Beauty of Light & Color, was created by local award-winning artist Susan Aitken, who is a contemporary realist painter that currently lives and works in Canton, Michigan. Her distinctive style is a modern interpretation of the 12th century art form of stained glass. A combination of intricate line and luminous color, her oil paintings emanate both elegance and serenity. Depicted is natural beauty as well as three-dimensional images such as garden sculptures and gargoyles within the framework of traditional stained glass.
This large collection of JS Aitken’s original paintings will be on display in the Gallery@VT, located in the Village Theater at Cherry Hill throughout August.
Susan Aitken, illustrator and educator, has been a professional artist since 1986. Information about her studio and current artwork can be found on her website: jsaitkenart.com. This current art exhibit is free and open to the public: Monday – Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., one hour prior to and during public performances at the theater, as well as by appointment. The Gallyer@VT is closed on holidays.
