This clean up event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the property formerly known as Henry Ford’s Village Industry-Cherry Hill Site, located at 50625 Cherry Hill Road in Canton, MI. Purchased by the Partnership for the Arts and Humanities in August 2012, this 14-acre property includes a Veteran’s Dormitory, the Ford Factory, and industrial warehouse.
Clean up projects will include interior demolition in the Veteran’s Dormitory and Ford Factory, as well as exterior landscape and river clean-up. This work will assist the Partnership in preparing to begin renovations and construction this year for the Village Arts Factory. Volunteers of all ages are asked to park in the site’s parking lot, located on the west side of the Warehouse with an entrance off of Cherry Hill Road, and check in at the registration table. Volunteers are also encouraged to bring gloves, yard tools and additional equipment to assist with the clean up. Please remember to make sure equipment is clearly labeled with the owner’s name.
“By hosting this clean-up event we preparing for the upcoming renovations to the site to create the new Village Arts Factory,” said Jill Engel, Partnership for the Arts and Humanities Executive Director. “We hope that a large number of residents and local business representatives are able to come out and support our efforts and get a chance to witness the creation of our Village Arts Factory from its developmental stage. Here is a chance to be part of history and help renovate a Canton landmark that is listed in the National Register of Historical Places, which recognizes historical properties worthy of preservation throughout the United States.”
The Village Arts Factory’s main objective will be to broaden and sustain the cultural arts in southeastern Michigan by creating a regional arts destination that will support and encourage arts, education, historic preservation, veteran services, entertainment and recreation.
Volunteers are asked to RSVP by May 27 to ensure an accurate headcount for light refreshments. RSVP to Jill Engel via email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 734/765-7061.
