[ARCHIVED] Call for Artists: Canton’s 23rd Annual Fine Arts Exhibition Accepting Entries

"This juried art show has a rich history that has included over 1,000 works being shown,” says Jennifer Tobin, Canton Arts Coordinator. “Each year I look forward to this exhibition because I enjoy seeing some of my favorite seasoned artists’ new work while being introduced to exciting emerging artists. I thoroughly love the variety of works included in this exhibition. The opening reception is a wonderful, free event complete with a wine and cheese reception and a program that features the top winning artists speaking about their work. Art lovers should be sure to attend."

All media is accepted for this outstanding exhibition. Only digital image files on CDs will be accepted for review. No slides will be accepted for consideration. Paintings and hangings should not exceed five feet wide or six feet high, 40 pounds in weight and must be properly and appropriately framed and prepared for hanging. Sculpture dimensions must not exceed 5’ x 5’ x 6’ and 200 pounds in weight. Original works of art must have been completed in the last three years. A non-refundable entry fee of $15 for each submitted piece is required.

The competition will award $1,950 in cash prizes: Best of Show $750; Second Place $500; Third Place $300; two Honorable Mentions of $100 each; and four Merit Awards of $50 each. The deadline for entries is August 24, 2015. Juried result notification will be mailed by September 10, 2015.

This year’s distinguished juror will be Nancy Coumoundouros, who has served as the Cultural Arts Supervisor for the Cities of Farmington Hills and Farmington until her retirement in 2014. In that role, Coumoundouros created and developed the Cities’ Cultural Arts Division, beginning with writing the first Cultural Master Plan for both cities. A reception will be held for the selected artists on October 1, 2015 at 6:30 p.m., with a special program starting at 7:30 p.m. The Village Theater has exhibition hours throughout the year (except for major holidays), Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., by appointment, and during all public performances. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The Village Theater, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton, MI 48187, is a regional center for the arts that offers the magic of live theater, soul-stirring music, the thrill of the dance, and the enjoyment of fine art exhibitions and events, in addition to providing a home for several cultural organizations and community groups.
