The event will be held at Plaza Lanes, located at 42001 Ann Arbor Road, E., Plymouth, Michigan starting at 12:30 p.m.

Canton’s Therapeutic Recreation program was recently honored with an mParks “Excellence in Programming Award,” presented by the Michigan Recreation and Park Association. Over the last two years, this program has served more than 240 families with individuals who qualify for these unique adaptive services. Therapeutic Recreation (TR) accommodations typically include individualized techniques and resources that enhance participation by individuals who are unable to accomplish tasks on their own, without fundamentally altering a program. These inclusive opportunities are available to residents of Western Wayne County with a wide range of disabilities and impairments. Programming has grown dramatically over the last 15 years, and focuses on promoting the development of fine and gross motor skills, health and wellness, social interactions, and independence within the community.

The award winning TR ‘Leisure Club’ is one of several programming options that supports an incredible collection of participants and staff who have truly found a sense of belonging and family through field trips, camps, and fitness classes that really mean so much more. “It’s a magic mixture of life, love, and learning,” said, Jennifer Provenzano, TR Program Coordinator. “These programs transcend what makes us different...celebrating the diversity of the human form and its triumphant spirit, while connecting us all in the ways that we are the same. Leisure Club creates a place where “disabled” becomes “distinct”, and “can’t” becomes “can.”

Tickets for this event can be purchased at the Summit on the Park front desk, located at 46000 Summit Parkway, Canton, MI 48188. This ticket price of $16 includes: two games of pin busting fun, use of rental shoes, and one large pepperoni pizza with a pitcher of pop per lane. Please note that each lane is restricted to five bowlers. This fundraiser supports all programming activities offered by the Canton TR department.

This and other Therapeutic Recreation programs have found a happy home at the Summit on the Park Community Center. The location contributes to high levels of visibility, increasing the opportunity for social interactions, while simultaneously educating and promoting acceptance of individuals with disabilities within the community. Canton Therapeutic Recreation programs are primarily hosted at the Summit at the Park, which is located 46000 Summit Parkway in Canton, MI.
