[ARCHIVED] The Village Theater at Cherry Hill To Exhibit Works By Artist Barbara Eko Murphy

Thirty-two featured works will be on display including: water media, portraitures and human figure drawings. While continuing to pursue the object of mastering figures, floral, and abstract subjects, Murphy has studied at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center, Visual Arts Association of Livonia, University of Michigan Dearborn and a multitude of workshops in Michigan with teachers on the International Circuit.

Year round, Murphy delights in drawing live models each week with Mary’s Muses, a Novi artist’s studio. Since 2001, her work has been shown in over 230 juried fine art shows and 48 solo shows. Murphy’s 28 awards, as well as samples of her works, can be found on her website www.barbaraekomurphy.com. Murphy is also proud to be an artist member of Lawrence Street Gallery of Ferndale, MI, where she exhibits on a monthly basis.

A current member of other numerous art clubs, Murphy has also donated her art to many fundraisers, including: American Heart Association, Angela Hospice, Mercy Ed, Detroit-Waldorf School, and Arbor Hospice. Murphy’s art is also published in Artistic “Touch Book 4,” by Christine Unwin and in the Detroit Society of Woman Painters and Sculptors publication - “Folio.” A retired Livonia Classroom Teacher, Murphy now enjoys studying art and discovering new ways to create challenging works.

“I love experimenting with color and design,” stated artist Barbara Eko Murphy. “Rather than trying to copy pictures realistically, I strive for a looser interpretation. I draw and paint live models twice a week – three hours a day, with a group of friends, in an artist’s studio year around.
