Summit Spotlight: More Amenities Now Available

The Summit on the Park will now be offering the following additional amenities beginning Monday, November 2:

  • Daily Drop-in visits now allowed
  • Fitness locker room and showers will open
  • Racquetball court reservations now accepted
  • Senior Striders walking club permitted on the track
  • Now accepting new members!
Please note the Summit's modified business hours:
Monday-Friday: 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Saturday & Sunday: 7 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Under local, state, and federal public health guidelines and requirements, Summit staff has modified safety protocols and augmented operations accordingly.  Members and drop-in guests will have access to strength and fitness center equipment, as well as the walking track; however, the Aquatic Center will remain closed for renovations. Summit members and drop-in guests are reminded that they now have access to over 40 fitness classes per week (included in membership or daily drop-in fee), that are now held indoors. Pre-registration is required at www.summitonthepark.org/1287 or in person at the Summit Front Desk.

All Summit on the Park memberships, which have been frozen since the facility’s closure due to the global pandemic, will be re-activated and extended accordingly once a member first returns to the Summit. Memberships will remain frozen for those members who do not feel comfortable returning to our facility at this time.  For Summit on the Park news and information, visit www.summitonthepark.org.

Canton Farmers Market will now host the 3rd Annual Holiday Artisan Market on a new date and at a new location due to revised State of Michigan indoor gathering regulations.

Originally scheduled for November 1, the Holiday Artisan Market will now be held on November 8, outside in the Summit's parking lot, located at 4000 Summit Parkway in Canton, MI, 48188.

Support local artisans as you start your holiday shopping for unique handmade treasures! This market will offer a variety of vendors, including familiar faces from our regular season and more! In addition, tasty treats will be available from Great Lakes Confections food truck. Please note that face mask and social distancing are required at all times. Santa Letters

Drop-off letters from November 11-30 
Canton Leisure Services has made special arrangements with our friends at the North Pole and the US Post Office to deliver your wish list to Santa! Canton residents can drop off a letter to Santa using the permanent ballot box (formally the absentee ballot box) located near the Canton Administration Building. Print your name and address clearly so he may reply to your letter.

Canton Leisure Services Virtual Tree Lighting event

Light Up the Night Canton and join us virtually on our Facebook Page @cantonfun or Canton Community Television to view the lighting of the official Canton Township Holiday Tree with special guests and performances. Follow Santa as he makes his way to Canton during this exciting new special event! We are encouraging residents to help us light up the night and turn your holiday displays “ON” with us throughout the community at 6:30 p.m.

Winter Wonderland Walk

December 4-6, 5:00-9:00 p.m. (select start times available)
Days may be getting shorter, but winter can be wonderful! Get bundled up, grab your flashlight, a thermos of hot cocoa, and head to Pheasant Run Golf Course for a very special 2-mile Winter Wonderland Walk. Enjoy luminaries and simple twinkling lights, while you breathe in the crisp night air. Sponsored in part by Lombardo Homes & Nolan and Guests Orthodontics. Santa is Coming to Your Town

Thursdays, December 10 & 17, 6-8 p.m. 
Celebrate the beautiful diversity of this community as we showcase the wide array of traditions that are often celebrated this time of year. Area residents are invited to share with us their favorite family, holiday, or winter season tradition! We’ll pass along some of our favorites on our social media pages throughout the month of December. If your submission is selected as one of our winners Santa will be escorted by Canton Public Safety down your street to visit you and your neighbors! 

How to Enter: Send an email November 15-30 to laura.mortier@canton-mi.org to share your favorite family, holiday, or winter season tradition.

Canton Club 55+ Senior Center Activities

Canton Club 55+ to Open November 16!

Good News! We are now able to open our doors for a select number of programs this month. Not all programs will be returning at this time, but staff is working on ways to ensure when they do return, all our participants will be safe. Please keep in mind, programs will be modified with new safety protocols. Individuals will be required to register for each program in advance. Registration can be done online or over the phone. To stay up to date with our latest programs, visit our Facebook page @cantonclub55 or subscribe to the Canton Club 55+ Prime Times monthly newsletter.

Participants must adhere to the following safety guidelines:

  • Masks must be worn at all times while inside the Summit
  • Food/beverages may not be shared at this time
  • Coffee/tea service is currently not available
  • Participants may arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to program start time and must leave once the program has finished

Please Note: The Summit Gymnasium will remain closed for all Canton Club 55+ sports. Striders Walking Club resumes November 2. For additional information, contact Canton Club 55+ at 734/394-5485.

Canton's Virtual Turkey Trot

Turkey Trot for a Cause

Week-Long Virtual Event: November 19-26

Participants can keep this annual Thanksgiving tradition alive by running or walking any time from November 19-26, during this week-long virtual fundraising event. This year’s virtual event encourages friends near and far to register for the 5K or 1 Mile Walk/Run to support the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan.

Event includes: video ceremonies, special guest virtual visits, raffle prizes, race shirt, and souvenir bibs!

Register online for the Virtual Turkey Trot or by phone at 734/483-5600. Participants who register by November 9 are guaranteed to receive a race shirt.

Fee: 5K Run - $25 or 1-Mile Run/Walk - $15

Register to Hike with a Naturalist in Canton

Hike with a Naturalist

Saturday, November 14,
Choose start time: 10 a.m.  or 12 p.m.

Nature Trail at Flodin Park (Morton Taylor and Saltz Roads). This hike will include a walk around several wetland areas (0.75 miles total) with information and commentary by Justin Smith, Community Outreach Interpreter from the Huron-Clinton Metroparks. Don't miss the photo scavenger hunt and an opportunity to ask questions about the wetland ecosystem as well as information on 'Leave No Trace' principles and recycling.  Fall refreshments will be offered in a safe manner. This is a FREE, family and pet-friendly community event, but limited pre-registration is REQUIRED. Canton Leisure Services is committed to offering safe, socially distanced events for participants, instructors and staff, therefore, masks will be required in order to participate.
