Hello All!

Club 55+ is currently closed until further notice, due to the ongoing COVID-19 environment
. Our staff looks forward to welcoming everyone back again when we can provide recreational, educational, and health and wellness activities along with fun and exciting seasonal events and trips once the current climate is deemed safe to re-open.

In the meantime, Canton Club 55+ is currently offering programs that can be enjoyed virtually, on a computer, or over the phone.  In addition, several outdoor programs may be available; weather permitting. These exciting new programs will focus on keeping individuals engaged, connected, and safe. Watch for programs to be rolled out over the next few weeks. Seniors in need of a resource or those with questions may contact the Club 55+ staff Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by calling 734/394-5485 or by emailing club55@canton-mi.org.

Striders Walking Club

Calling all Striders! The walking track is now available to the Striders. Please follow social distancing guidelines. Strider members must check in at the Summit front desk. Not a Strider member? Wii Bowling - Virtual League

Beginning the 1st week of December
Individuals can still participate in some friendly competition from the comfort of their own home. All you need is access to a Wii system and the Wii bowling game to participate. Don’t have access to a Wii system? Canton Club 55+ has very limited systems available to borrow. Register online now through December 5 (may sign up a week into the start of the league).

Holiday Pen Pal Program

Month of December 
Help spread some holiday cheer! Canton Club 55+ is looking for individuals who would like to participate in a holiday pen pal program.  Participants would be matched randomly and sent each other’s mailing address. Please call the Club 55+ desk at 734/394-5485 to register by December 9. Holiday cards available by request (limited quantity while supplies last).

Join us for these free virtual workshops presented via Zoom. If you have a smart phone, tablet or computer, you can join Zoom. A link to the workshop and instructions will be sent to you prior to each workshop.

Fall Risk & Prevention

Have you fallen in the past year, or know someone who has? According to the CDC, an older adult falls every second of every day and every 20 minutes an older adult dies due to a fall. These are scary statistics, but research has shown that many falls are preventable. Learn steps you can take to reduce your risk of falling. Presented by Melanie Wells PT, CEEAA, CBIS, CDP. Out Smart the Scammers

Incidents of fraud are on the rise and scammers tactics are becoming more complex. (Source: Financial Services Roundtable, Elder Financial Exploitation Training and Awareness Guidance for Front-Line Staff, August 2015). Join us for this presentation and learn important strategies to help protect yourself. Topics include:
• How to spot certain red flags that may indicate a fraudulent encounter.
• Resources you can turn to in the event you or a loved one are targeted.
• Steps you can take now.

Learn how to make DIY sock gnomes from mismatched socks. These little gnomes are adorable and make a perfect gift for family or friends. DIY sock gnomes are simple to make and can be made in 20 minutes or less. Please register online by December 4. Kits will be available for pick up December 8. Individuals can complete the project on their own or join us on Zoom on December 9 at 1:00 p.m. to work on the project together.

This adorable little Christmas craft will make a wonderful decoration for your home, and it’s really easy to make! We will provide instructions and all the supplies, all you have to do is get creative! Kits will be available to pick up and take home December 21.  Please reserve your kit by December 16.

Door Decorating Contest

We are looking for the most creative and most holiday spirited individuals 55+. Decorate any door in your home, with any materials you have. We are encourage you to get as creative as you can! Once your door is completed, take a photo of your door and send an email with the photo included to club55@canton-mi.org by December 18 at 11 p.m. Doors will then be voted one by the CLS staff and the winner will receive a holiday gift basket, filled with goodies. We are excited and look forward to see what you all can come up with. HAVE FUN!

Summit Community Courtyard (west parking lot)
Enjoy this classic game of BINGO from the safety of their own cars. All you have to do is stay in your warm car and tune your radio to our BINGO station. Come dressed up in your favorite Holiday gear for a chance to win a door prize! Register by December 11.

Missing our monthly BINGO? Why not join us from the comfort of your own home via Zoom. Individuals can participate via phone or video. Once you register, instructions and BINGO cards will be sent out to you. Limited space available. Register by December 15.

Ages: 55+
Fee: $5 per person (10 games, 1 card each)
Fee includes 10 games of BINGO. Participants are encouraged to bring their own markers (BINGO dabbers,  etc). Players can only win once. Space is limited
