Wayne County COVID-19 Vaccination
Clinic Update

The Summit on the Park is proud to be one of several host sites for Wayne County COVID-19 Senior  Vaccination Clinics.  Currently, this location is accepting additions to its waitlist for eligible seniors age 65 and older, who reside in Canton Township, City of Plymouth, and Plymouth Township, online at www.canton-mi.org/1277 to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.  As vaccination efforts continue to unfold and additional allocations to this clinic become available, eligible seniors from Canton and Plymouth communities will be contacted off of this waitlist. Area seniors are also encouraged to please continue to register for vaccines through your health care provider and local pharmacies and accept the first available appointment. Seniors in need of a resource or those with questions may contact the Club 55+ staff Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by calling 734/394-5485 or by emailing club55@canton-mi.org.

Striders Walking Club

Indoor Walking Track Membership 2021
Looking to stay active but don't want to venture outside? The Summit on the Park has opened their indoor walking track to adults age 55+ in the community. Club 55+ currently offers a Striders membership which will give individuals access to the walking track for a discounted price. Participants are asked to social distance when on the track, wear masks and to check in at the front desk. Regular fees apply. For more information please call 734/394-5485.

Individuals can still participate in some friendly competition from the comfort of their own home. All you need is access to a Wii system and the Wii bowling game to participate. Fridays, April 16 - June 4, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Many older adults experience concerns of falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is an award-winning program designed to reduce the fear of falling to help individuals increase their activity levels. Participants will have the opportunity to learn:

- Practical strategies to manage falls
- Make changes to reduce fall risks at home
- Improve balance and flexibility
- Seated exercise routine 

Join us for this virtual workshop from the comfort of your own home. This program is offered in partnership with National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. Register by April 1.

DIY Holiday Make at Home

Get creative from the comfort of your own home. Individuals can participate by calling in on a land line or joining our video Zoom call using a smart phone, tablet, or computer. Each kit comes with step-by-step instructions so that individuals can complete the project on their own or join us on Zoom to work on the project together. The class will be recorded for participants to view at a later time.

Some crafts involve gluing. Glue guns are ideal, but alternative gluing methods will be provided in the kits. Glue guns are available for purchase online though Canton Club 55+ for $4.

Tax Counceling Assistance:  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Canton Club 55+ is no longer able to continue its free tax aid program through AARP for qualifying seniors this tax season. A number of free online tax filing programs are available, including: https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile/ and www.irs.gov (just select ‘Do Your Taxes For Free’).Please note that these services may have income or age limits. In addition, visit aarp.org and click on Information for You: Tax Aide at the bottom of the page to find additional recommendations.
