Exercise is the Key to Healthy AgingStarting or maintaining a regular exercise routine can be a challenge as you get older. You may feel discouraged by illness, ongoing health problems, or concerns about injuries or falls. Or, if you've never exercised before, you may not know where to begin. Or perhaps you think you're too old or frail, or that exercise is boring or simply not for you.
While these may seem like good reasons to slow down and take it easy as you age, they're actually even better reasons to get moving. Exercise can energize your mood, relieve stress, help you manage symptoms of illness and pain, and improve your overall sense of well-being. In fact, exercise is the key to staying strong, energetic, and healthy as you get older. And it can even be fun, too!
Reaping the rewards of exercise doesn't have to involve strenuous workouts or trips to the gym. It's about adding more movement and activity to your life, even in small ways. Whether you are generally healthy or are managing an illness-even if you're housebound-there are many easy ways to get your body moving and improve your health and outlook.
Full article may be found at: https://www.helpguide.org/articles/healthy-living/exercise-and-fitness-as-you-age.htm
Take advantage of these exercise classes: January 2 - April 2, 2022 Register online for each class at www.cantonfun.org/register. Most classes are free to Summit Members or require a nominal fee for non-Summit Members.

CANDID Conversations with Canton Club 55+This month we are pleased to feature Nancy Anderson! Nancy was born in Hamtramck and raised in Detroit and has led an interesting (if not challenging) life. She graduated from high school early and began college at U of D Mercy. Unfortunately, financial hardship and a brief illness during her sophomore year forced her to complete her studies part-time in the evening until graduation. Nancy majored in English Literature and Composition and later earned a Bachelor Degree in Liberal Arts, as well as a State of Michigan teaching certificate.
Nancy's teaching career spanned 40+ years, during which she taught both full-time and part-time, Pre-school through 8th grade. She has also substituted in the Plymouth-Canton school district.
Nancy has three daughters: Lynn Marie, Laura and Karen. After her retirement, Nancy became very active in Club 55+. Some of the activities include fitness classes, playing pinochle, participating with the Red Hats and she is currently the secretary of the Pioneers Social Group. She recently became a member of the Senior Advisory Council that meets bi-monthly, where she represents her fellow seniors and helps promote our center. She considers the Summit on the Park to be her second home.
Some Fun Facts: - Nancy loves traveling with her husband Michael, playing piano and attending live musical theatre.
- She loves classical music and her all-time favorite entertainer is Elvis Presley.
- Nancy is very active in her church, St. Thomas A’ Beckett in Canton. Nancy taught religious formation classes and has served as a Eucharist minister at the church.
- as a volunteer usher at the Canton Village Theater for 12 years!
- Nancy lives by the Golden Rule: “Treat others the way you would like to be treated.”
