Artist’s Statement: Tina Hotchkiss' work is full of energy: using watercolor, ink, gesso, and color pencil to create scenes from nature. Her love for mark making and color is shown in her work. She participates in juried and non-juried exhibitions and has won several awards. Her work has been published in Ann Kullberg's Hidden Treasures IV and the book, "Year of the Resistance." Tina earned her Bachelor of Science in Industrial Design from The Ohio State University. She is a member of the Huron River Art Collective, National Watercolor Society, Colored Pencil Society of America (and the Detroit chapter) Brighton Art Guild and the Chelsea Painters. Tina also teaches numerous art classes for all ages.
Dennis Gordon's BFA in Printmaking has led him to explore new options in relief printing, specifically, woodcuts or wood engravings. Other printmaking areas, such as intaglio, silk screen and lithography have all embraced the photographic process as part of image development and image transfer. Wood engravings and relief printing in general, have not had a method to use the photographic or digital image manipulation systems. Most of his woodcuts involve a photographic or digital manipulation process. He also began combining his painting background with the woodcuts by painting a background on printmaking paper, letting that dry, then inking up the wood plate and printing on that background. He usually applies the background painting with a brayer (roller for inking plates) so that it is a fairly rough and non-detailed background image, which allows the more defined woodcut print to dominate. Gordon's style fluctuates from semi-realistic, to impressionistic and expressionistic. He believes that good art should evoke an emotion in the viewer, and try to do more than capture an image, but also capture a mood. He has had the honor of his woodcuts being accepted into many juried shows throughout Michigan, in over a dozen other states and two international exhibitions.
The first 100 reception attendees of The Gallery@Cherry Hill's March exhibition, Innovations in Watercolor and Printmaking, will receive a FREE limited-edition mini woodcut by Dennis Gordon and a mini print of one of Tina Hotchkiss' watercolor paintings. This opening reception will be held at The Village Theater at 50400 Cherry Hill Rd, Canton, MI, Sunday, March 6, 2022 from 2 - 4 p.m.
The Gallery@Cherry Hill is open on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., and Tuesday - Friday from 4 - 8 p.m. or by special appointment that is arranged via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
