CANDID Conversations with Canton Club 55+This month we are so very excited to interview Grace Holness, one of our newer Team Members who has joined our staff as our new Special Events Coordinator. Canton Club 55+ is so grateful to have Grace on our Team, as she brings a world of knowledge in senior services to our program. Grace started her career at Detroit Receiving Hospital working as a coordinator of services while attending college for her Health Administration Degree, where she continued to work there for twenty-five years from 1982-2007. Prior to that, Grace pursued her degree as a Medical Case Manager, focusing on working in communications with the public sector.
After receiving her 2nd degree, Grace was hired at People’s Community Services of Metropolitan Detroit, which was the first Social Services company in the City of Detroit. Here she became the Director over all the Senior Services, which consisted of: operations for the Senior Day Programs; transportation services with four SMART buses operating in the cities of Hamtramck, Detroit, and Highland Park; Home care programs; Health Wellness programs; and over thirty employees, along with volunteer staffing. Grace also managed and maintained all Federal grants for each program, to ensure compliancy.
During this time, Grace also sat on two boards: the City of Detroit Transportation Department as the board chair, and the Detroit Area on Aging Advisory Committee, as well as many other city programs. She also volunteered and worked with Focus Hope, Meal on Wheels, and served with United Way. After retiring from People’s Community Services after sixteen years, Grace established a Senior Day Program called Simon’s Rest at the Living Word Lutheran Church in Plymouth Michigan, which provided services to individuals with mild challenges of Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease until closing in 2020 due to COVID-19. Presently, Grace attends Northridge Church in Plymouth with her family and has been married for thirty-four years to her husband Kirk. Grace has raised two children, Matthew and Gabrielle, who are both now adults, and has two grandchildren: a three-year-old grandson named Amethyst and a two-year-old granddaughter named Mette Grace. In addition, Grace has six siblings.
Fun Facts: Grace’s hobbies include: fishing, BINGO, playing cards, and some golfing. She also enjoys walking regularly in the park and has been living the dream by selecting where to focus her energy each day on the rest of her journey going fourth.
Thank you, Grace, for sharing details about your life with us and we are so grateful to have you on our team!
