CANDID Conversations with Canton Club 55+Each month Canton Club 55+ continues to feature a different captivating member/volunteer and/or staff person in our Candid Conversations! If you’d like to be profiled in an upcoming edition, please call 734/394-5485 or email us at Jennifer.galazka@cantonmi.gov.
This month Susan Dehelean is in the spotlight sharing details about her fascinating life.
Susan is the eldest of 5 children and was born and raised in northwest Detroit. She spent her teen years working at Edgewater Amusement Park in the Motor City and then relocated to Florida for a year during her 20s. Susan has had the opportunity to travel to London, Merida, Mexico, the Bahamas, Paris, and, of course, Canada. In the summer, she visits a family cabin on Clam Lake that her grandparents purchased way back in 1945.
A couple of Susan’s adventures included white water rafting on the Gulley River in West Virginia. She once drove out to Las Vegas, choosing to take this mode of transport in an effort to see many beautiful things up close. Susan’s bucket list still contains a grand road trip all around our beautiful United States. She’s a firm believer that our country is so vast, and every state is different, plus, the U.S. has so many beautiful and unique cultures.
Currently, Susan lives in Milford on a few acres of land with her daughter and son-in-law and shares her home with a rooster, six chickens, two cats named Kitty and Handsome, and last but not least Oliver, who is a five-month-old Australian Shepherd.
Susan paints with oils and also takes ballet classes, whenever she can. Her most recent interest is in learning about real estate investing. Susan has been retired for the last two years, after working in many restaurants, as well as a sales representative. In addition, Susan created several programs for non-profit organizations to make money with Nestles. This busy individual also created a local magazine, ”Living in Pheasant Run,” which challenged her the most creatively to date. Susan was also successful in selling “puffs of air” for radio advertising. As you can see, she’s had a variety of fun and rewarding work experience. Susan is so looking forward to new adventures and travels, and is a firm believer that the best is yet to come!
