Canton Club 55+ Summer to Fall Transition It’s hard to believe that Fall will officially start on September 22! Cooler temperatures mean that the leaves will soon be changing colors. We hope that as the weather changes, you will visit Canton Club 55+ for our many activities, classes, and trips!
Join us on September 22 as Canton Club 55+ hosts the Annual Golf Outing at Fellows Creek Golf Club, located at 2936 S. Lotz Rd, in Canton. In the event of inclement weather, the rain date will be held on September 29.
Participants ages 55 and older will enjoy 18 holes of golf, various competitions, breakfast, and lunch followed by an awards ceremony. Prizes will be awarded to the top teams. Participants can sign up as a team (4 people), a threesome, pair, or as an individual.
When registering, please include the names of your teammates during the check-in process. If you are registering multiple people, please have their contact info ready (name, phone number, address, date of birth and email address).
Would you like to register for a team activity, but do not have a full team? Don’t worry, sign up as an individual and we will work our hardest to find a partner/team for you.

This month we are spotlighting Rachel Dean who is our new Front Desk Supervisor! If you haven’t met Rachel yet, please stop by to say hello. She’d love to meet you.
Rachel was born and raised in Michigan and has one younger brother who lives in the Cincinnati, Ohio area. Her parents, who also live in that area, have been married for 55 years!!
Rachel currently lives in Canton with her husband, Dave, and two adorable Yorkshire Terriers, Artie (13) and Coby (8). She enjoys traveling, exercising, gardening, baking, going to the theatre, and playing games and cards. Along with working at Canton Club 55+, Rachel assists a senior twice a week at her home.
Rachel’s background is in education. In fact, she was an elementary teacher for the Wayne-Westland School District for 15 years. She is enjoying her new pace in life and is excited to work with all of you at Club 55+! We welcome Rachel and are excited that she’s part of our team.

Intro to Bid Whist Card Game Thursdays, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. Join us to learn how to play this exciting, popular partnership trick-taking game called Bid Whist, which is played with a standard 52 card deck plus 2 jokers. There are 4 players consisting of two teams. The object of the game is to reach a score of 7 or more points, or force the other team to go negative 7 or more points. Lori's HandsMonday, September 12 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Parkview Lori's Hands creates intergenerational service learning partnerships. College students make weekly visits to community members with chronic illnesses, to assist with daily activities and, in turn, learn about the real life experience of chronic diseases. Eligible clients include individuals who live in Washtenaw or Wayne County, have a diagnosed chronic disease, can accept a weekly visit from volunteers during the academic semester, and are open to answering student questions about health and healthcare experiences. Lori’s Hands interns and volunteers are undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate genuine interest in healthcare and service. Medicare Assistance ProgramPresentation: Tuesday, September 20 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Walnut Room Certified volunteer counselors will be on-site offering free, unbiased services for Medicare beneficiaries and their representatives. To schedule a 30-minute appointment, call MMAP at 1-800-803-7174 or 734-727-2067 and specify you are requesting an appointment at the Canton Senior Center. If you don't have an appointment, stop by Canton Club 55+ on September 20 to pick up Medicare information resources. For a counseling session, please come prepared with your Medicare card and details on the prescription drugs you take on a regular basis including the name of the medication, dosage, and quantity. Immediately following the presentation, counselors will be on-site ready to be of assistance. September Presentation: Medicare Basics: What You Need to Know to Prepare for Medicare's Annual Enrollment. World Religions CourseThursdays, October 6-27 7:00-8:15 p.m. Canton Township will offer a FREE course in World Religions this fall on Thursday evenings from 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm (Oct. 6, 13, 20, 27). The course will be taught by Dr. John A. McLean, who has a Ph.D. and M.A. in Ancient Near Eastern Studies from the University of Michigan, and a Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary. This course provides an examination of one major religion each evening (Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Christianity). The format for each evening will include a goal of promoting a greater understanding of our community religions, and therefore, greater respect for each other.

Presentations / Workshops Caregiver Support Workshops
Thursday, September 1 (rescheduled due to Summit Annual Maintenance Shutdown) 2:00-3:00 p.m., Arts I Room Even though each caregiver has a different story, most caregivers share a core struggle. How can you reach out to alleviate the suffering of others and continue to give with an open heart? How do you avoid the immobilizing despair community relief workers call compassion fatigue? In this group we will explore how to: Be who you are; Know what you know; and Do what you need to do. The group is also open to the topics you, as caregivers, would like to discuss. Grief Support GroupThursday, September 15 10:30-11:30 a.m., Arts I Room During periods of intense grief, it's okay to feel a wide array of emotions. A grief support group will help guide you towards living life again. Group leader Ann will support you through the grieving process, as you walk towards healing and rebuilding your life within this “new normal”. This group will meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Pet-Assisted Therapy GroupThursday, September 22 12:00 - 1:00 p.m., Arts II Pet-assisted therapy has many benefits such as improved mental stimulation, memory stimulation, lessened levels of anxiety, reduced risk of depression, lowered blood pressure and so much more!
