Tips for Coping with Holiday Loneliness

The holiday season is generally thought of as a time of joy and love but for many people, it’s a time of loneliness. Their loneliness may come from loss of loved ones, separation by physical distance or through relationship breakups. Whatever the reason, coping with loneliness during the holidays can be difficult especially when others are happy, but take some comfort in knowing you are not alone.

Below are some ways to cope with holiday loneliness:

1. Seek Company: Reach out to friends and family, get connected with people through church or other social organizations or attend a holiday celebration.

2. Share Your Feelings: Be honest about your feelings and share them with family, friends, coworkers, neighbors, your pastor or a therapist.

3. Practice Self-Care: Take care of yourself with sleep, physical activity, proper nutrition, meditation, prayer and engage in activities you enjoy.

4. Have Realistic Expectations: Accept things as they come. Don’t expect someone who isn’t supportive to suddenly be during the holidays. Avoid presumptions.

5. Volunteer: Help others, serve at a soup kitchen or help charitable organizations.

This month we are spotlighting Ron Cimino who is our new Special Events Coordinator! If you haven’t met Ron yet, please stop by to say hello. He’d love to meet you.

Ron was born and raised in the Dearborn, Michigan area where he still lives. He has a 30-year-old son who, along with his wife, just welcomed their 1st child and his grandchild. He also has a 27-year-old daughter. 

Ron enjoys watching all sports on television and in person. His other hobbies include: playing cards, traveling, taking walks in parks, bike riding, going to movies, and going out to eat.

Ron has a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a Master’s degree from the University of Michigan. We welcome Ron and are excited that he’s part of our team.
