May 2018 Gallery @VT featuring drawings and paintings  by artist Nick Bair

Exhibition Dates:   May 1 - 29

Artist Reception: May 2, 7 - 9 pm (free and open to the public)

My 2018 exhibit is titled “The World of Animals”. In this art show I am exhibiting some of my favorite animals like elephants and rhinoceros’ but also animals that are either very beautiful to me or endangered. I have experimented with my painting using some new media such as oil - both alla prima  (wet-into- wet oil) and grisaille (oil paint over a graphite drawing), and ink (India and Walnut inks). Animals are my inspiration for my art – they are more interesting to me than anything else. I try to capture their strength and energy in my art.  I like to see the animals as I have in the wild or in a zoo up close – strong, quiet and beautiful. My favorite media remains a mixed media using acrylic paint and colored pencil. This combination allows me to create in an imaginative yet realistic way showing the depth of color and detail I want to see when the work is done.
This last year was a busy one – I was accepted to the College for Creative Studies in Detroit as a part-time art student.  I have also continued my mentorship with illustrator,  Kirbi Fagan focusing on utilizing lots of different media and techniques.
I have continued to support my community by donating works of art for fundraisers that help babies, children and adults in need due to health problems or disabilities. Several prints of my art decorate the new Beaumont Autism Center at the Center for Exceptional Families in Dearborn, Michigan. I also support efforts to reduce elephant and rhinoceros poaching in Africa by donating to the American Wildlife Foundation. I have autism.
I hope you enjoy my exhibit. Please visit my website ARTISTNICKBAIR.COM  or follow my journey on Instagram at  N.DINOART.
