Canton Acts of Culture Week

Canton is once again focusing a spotlight on arts and culture during the 9th annual Canton Acts of Culture Week. This special week, presented by the Canton Commission for Culture, Arts and Heritage, will be held May 10 - May 18, 2019, at various community locations. Some of the many goals of Canton's Acts of Culture Week include: showcasing community cultural resources and partnerships; celebrating diverse culture offerings; raising awareness of arts accessibility; instilling an appreciation of local arts organizations; and promoting the arts and heritage in and around the Canton community.  Find a complete schedule of events online and help celebrate the arts in Canton!

Heritage Park Ponds

Passport to the Parks 

Take your fitness to the parks this summer! Join us at various Canton park locations to participate in FREE fitness classes such as yoga and bootcamp on the 2nd and 4th Saturday from May – September.  Classes will be held from 10:30-11:30 a.m. and FREE children’s activities will be offered to entertain the little ones! Get your Canton Passport to Parks stamped each class visit to receive one entry in a drawing for a chance to win a Summit on the Park 3-Month Family Membership. Prince Tribute Featuring Phase 5

The Village Theater will celebrate the legacy of singer, songwriter, and legendary musician Prince with a tribute from Phase 5, on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 7:30 p.m.  This Prince Tribute band has performed at Greektown Casino, MGM Grand Casino, Motor City Casino, Winterblast, The North American Auto Show and has opened for national acts including Freddie Jackson. Put on your best Purple and join us as we Party Like It’s 1999 and enjoy Purple Rain inspired drinks and snacks available for purchase in the lobby. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased at the door or in advance online or by phone 734/394-5300, or in person Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Village Theater, located at 50400 Cherry Hill Road in Canton.

Canton Pocket Park 

Canton Leisure Services is seeking public input for the development of a small pocket-park in Northeast Canton.  Pocket Parks are community parks that are generally under a half acre in size. This new park will be located on Koppernick Road, just east of I-275. Residents are invited to provide feedback on the design of the park at several public input sessions.  The collected input will help determine budgeting priorities and recommendations for both short and long-term improvements, ensuring that this pocket park will serve Canton’s needs now and into the future. Canton residents are encouraged to provide input via the following ways:  

  • Complete this online survey now through May19, 2019
  • Attend an Open House at the Canton Administration Building's Boardroom on Thursday, May 16, from 6:30 - 7:30 p.m.
  • Attend an Open House in the Summit on the Park's Lobby on Friday, May 17, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Canton Farmers Market


Canton Farmers Market Regular Season 

The first Farmers Market will kick off the season on Sunday, May 12 from 9am-1pm at Preservation Park, located at 500 N. Ridge Road, Canton. This open-air-market features a variety of Michigan grown and made food as well as hand crafted items. Buy local and learn how your food is grown or made while benefiting our local economy.  This first market will feature a Mother’s Day Celebration! Special activities include: live music, a kids’ craft, giveaways for Moms, and a full line up of market vendors! Chicken Coupe Chicken & Waffles food truck will also be onsite selling tasty lunch options. Once again, market-goers can enjoy special themed-markets throughout the market season, including: May 19 -  Health & Wellness Day; May 26 - Honoring Veterans; June 2 -  Master Gardeners Day; June 9 - Superheroes Day; June 16 - Father’s Day; June 23 - Kids’ Summer Party; and June 30 - Strawberry Festival. Healthy Summer Kick Off Event

May 18 from 1:00 - 4:00pm

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System is teaming up with Canton Leisure Services to offer its annual Healthy Summer Kick-Off on Saturday, May 18 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.  This free strolling, family-friendly event will be held at St. Joseph Mercy Canton, located at 1600 S. Canton Center Road. Bark in the Park Returns

May 19 from 11am - 1pm


Dog owners and their pets are invited to Bark in the Park on Sunday, May 19 from 11am – 1pm.  Participants, along with their four-legged friends, can enjoy live entertainment as well as purchase merchandise and receive free give-a-ways from local pet supply and service vendors.  Both members of the Dog Park and non-members are encouraged to let their dogs experience this off-leash dog park during this free event.  This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about the Canton Dog Park, meet other pet owners, and give dogs the opportunity to become more socialized.  Please note: Non-dog park members must show proof of up-to-date vaccination for Rabies and Distemper, which must be signed by an accredited veterinarian, as well as a Canton Dog License.  The Canton Dog Park is located at Denton Road, north of Cherry Hill.

2019 Liberty Festival Coming Attractions

June 13-15

Canton's annual summer tradition is fast approaching and will be held this year starting Thursday, June 13 through Saturday, June 15 on the grounds of Heritage Park, located behind the Canton Administration Building at 1150 S. Canton Center Road. This year's 28th annual event will feature three fun-filled days of great festival entertainment, exciting rides and Midway games, delicious food featuring a Taste of Liberty Festival, as well as a variety of food trucks, a spectacular fireworks display, and much, much more! Festival-goers who can't get enough of their favorite carnival rides can purchase discounted ride wristbands online now through Thursday, June 13 at Noon. The Megaband will give you unlimited access to all wristband approved rides, during all three days of the event, for just $60.  Megabands can only  be purchased in advance online. Single Day unlimited ride wristbands that are valid for any one day are $24 each online before the Festival and at the carnival will cost $28 for Thursday, $30 for Friday, and $30 on Saturday.  All discounted wristband online sales will end on Thursday, June 13, 2019 at Noon.

National Trails Day Celebration

Join us as Canton hits the trails at the Lower Rouge Trailhead, located at Michigan Avenue and Morton Taylor Road, as part of National Trails Day.  This American Hiking Society event will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Scheduled activities include: self-guided hiking along the beautiful Rouge River, educational displays and presentations by a naturalist, ‘Leave No Trace’ principles stations, recycling information, trail biking and running details and a 'Make-It-Yourself' Trail-Mix station.
